Summer 2023 Adult Programs

Our online conversation programs are designed for those busy adults who have had some or no previous instruction in the language and for those who wish to brush up on their speaking skills. It is ideal for anyone wishing to acquire communication skills and learn about cultures and traditions of the various regions where the language is spoken.

Our classes are offered in various levels:

Beginners: designed for students who have little to no experience/exposure in the language

Intermediate: designed for students who have some experience/prior exposure in the language

Advanced: designed for students with prior exposure in the language

Our small group classes will be held live via Zoom by instructors from Michigan State University. Experience the joy of learning a language in the comfort of your own home and interacting with other like-minded people through this enriching opportunity to navigate a different culture and keep your brain intellectually fit and sharp. Classes will be held once a week, 1.5 hours per week via Zoom (links will be sent the week before classes begin).

Online programs for summer are scheduled as follows:
Session 1: June 5-July 6. Registration fee- $60
Session 2: July 10-August 10. Registration fee- $60
Registration will be open April 1st.

Registration in multiple programs is permitted

We require a minimum enrollment limit of 8 students to run our programs and will accept no more than 10 students per program. A confirmation will be sent via email for each program registration. Full refunds will be provided for programs that are canceled due to low enrollment.

If registration is closed because the program has reached its maximum limit, please contact Carol Wilson-Duffy (wilson77@msu.edu) to be added to our waitlist.

Program Types

Online General language Classes

Our general language classes are offered in one or more of the following levels:

  • Beginners: for those who have had little to no experience/exposure to the language

Online Conversational Classes

Our online Conversation Classes focus exclusively on developing oral communication and improving fluency. The conversation classes are offered in one or more of the following levels:

  • Intermediate: for those who have had some experience/prior exposure to the language
  • Advanced: for those who have had more than 1 year of experience/prior exposure to the language

Salut!  My name is Jamie Archer.  I have worked at MSU for the College of Education for 7 years.  I have a degree in French from Central Michigan University and also studied in Angers, France and at the University at Buffalo.  I taught English to French-speaking people in both France and Haiti, where I was able to learn some French Creole.  Outside of being a complete Francophile, I love to read, swim, and take very long walks.  My favorite long walk was over 500 miles in Spain on the Camino de Santiago.  I very much look forward to teaching the French for Adults class!

Hallo Leute! My name is Charlotte Nevin, and I have been teaching German with CLS for the past three semesters. I received my BA in Modern Languages with a German emphasis in 2016, and my MA in Foreign Language Teaching from MSU in 2021. I currently live in Arizona, and work full time as a flight attendant. In my free time I love listening to music, growing plants, baking, and doing projects around the house. I have a passion for learning languages and am so excited to return this semester!

Since 1999, I have taught Spanish to homeschool families and tutored middle school, high school, and college students. In 2011, I started at MSU’s CLS program, teaching Spanish for Preschoolers and Spanish for Adults. I’m a person who loves spending time with my family, especially my grandkids. ¡Me gusta mucho enseñar español!

Since 1999, I have taught Spanish to homeschool families and tutored middle school, high school, and college students. In 2011, I started at MSU’s CLS program, teaching Spanish for Preschoolers and Spanish for Adults. I’m a person who loves spending time with my family, especially my grandkids. ¡Me gusta mucho enseñar español!

Ciao! My name is Carmen De Lorenzo. I’m an Italian and French Instructor in the Romance and Classical Studies Department at MSU. I have been teaching Italian and French at all levels for two decades. I’ve been working with CLS since 2008! I have taught the French and Italian for Kids programs as well as the Italian for Adults program. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, gardening, yoga, traveling, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
